What’s the Difference Between Hand Forged Iron vs. Plasma Cut Designs

The art of handcrafted ironworks have been around for centuries. Starting in the Middle Ages, ironclad doors, gates and railings offered an added degree of protection but also provided new opportunities for beauty. The 16th century, ironwork brought us the highly ornate designs, with scrolls, leaves, flowers, and interlaced patterns that we see in our ornamental ironwork today!

With nearly 30 years of experience, 1st Impression Ironworks’ artisans will not only hand forge beautiful iron scroll work but also create unique designs by using the latest in computer technology. We’ve perfected the art of optimizing precision machine tools to deliver iron products with market leading accuracy and function.

So, when it comes to making a decision on your custom door or gate, which option should you choose for your design: Hand Forged or Precision Plasma Cut?

The process of hand forging we use here at 1st Impression is very much like that done over centuries.
We heat iron to make it easier to manipulate and contour to the desired shape, allowing us to provide
highly intricate designs.

Plasma cutting is a melting process in which a jet of ionized gas, at temperatures above 20,000°C, is used to cut the desired custom design from a thick sheet of iron. The effect results in elaborate two-dimensional scroll work and designs that cannot be accomplished through the hand forging process.

In the end – whichever option you go with for your design, you will have a beautiful and unique iron product that reflects your style. If you’re ready to see the difference for yourself, give us a call at 844-476-6100 today to learn more!
